How Does The Arts And Crafts Program Benefit Adults With Autism
The main goal of this program is to provide adults with autism an opportunity to learn leisure arts and crafts skills. We also encourage our clients to create art that they are able to sell at the farmers market, which supports the development of other critical life skills, including but not limited to social skills.
In that sense, this program allows adults with autism to:
- Benefit from an alternative to verbal communication. Since one of the core hallmarks of autism is impaired communication, arts and crafts act as a powerful form of non-verbal expression. Many individuals with autism are visual thinkers. Expressing their thoughts and feelings through art and other creative outlets can provide a sense of relief and accomplishment.
- Be able to work on their social skills. In many cases, art therapy allows individuals to develop a bond with their therapist, as they are able to focus on the clients artwork, reducing the stress associated with face-to-face interaction. Within our program, art is a facilitator in forming connections with peers. Group projects also foster greater teamwork and cooperation.
Children With Asd And Special Needs
The Center for Contemporary Arts year-round Art for Children with ASD and Special Needs class and summer art program provide needed access to creative art experiences for children with Autism Spectrum Disorder and other special needs. The arts provide an invaluable avenue of self-expression for children with limited or no verbal communication, and because of heightened sensory needs, they often respond well to the multi-sensory stimulation and the hands-on approach inherent in art.
Planning a visit to The Center? to read our social story, A Visitors Guide for Families with Children on the Autism Spectrum.
This program is made possible with support from Janssen Pharmaceuticals, Inc.

A Digital Arts Program For Autistic Individuals
My name is Asher Rottenstrich and I am a 24-year-old college graduate who was diagnosed with Aspergers Syndrome at three years old.
After graduating from college with a bachelors degree, I struggled to secure employment like so many others on the spectrum, but I was firmly determined to never give up. With the help of my father and a strong support team backing me, I launched a digital arts learning business, ASDC.TV, to serve children and adults living with an autism spectrum disorder.
ASDC TV is a new video subscription site for autistic individuals. The website is a digital art lesson center with dozens of interactive videos available to watch and learn on demand. There are multiple video series, each containing several lessons on different topics.
Artistic Spectrum Digital Communications is an animation and visual effects studio for children and adults on the autism spectrum. Based in Northern New Jersey, we serve exceptional minds with untapped potentials. Our core programs include animation, drawing and painting training. Artistic Spectrum Digital Communications is an approved goods and services provider of art lessons through The Division of Developmental Disabilities Supports Program in the state of NJ.
The lessons are organized in different series. One example is the Emotion Series, which covers lessons on love, loneliness, and perseverance.

A Combination: The Collage
Other types of collages also make great art lessons for autistic students. To make a collage with students, give them several materials of different sizes, colors, and textures and help them glue the materials onto a piece of paper. For students with more basic fine motor skills, you can tape contact paper onto a table so that the materials stick more easily. If youâd like, you can turn this into a group art project by having each studentâs collage be one âsquareâ on a âquiltâ that you build on a bulletin board. This wall quilt can be called a âFriendship Quilt,â and can be used as a springboard for a discussion of friendship.
Is Martial Arts Good For Autistic Kids
A new study has shown that learning mixed martial arts improves working memory and inhibit natural responses in children with Autism Spectrum Disorders, whereas natural responses are more inhibited in children without the disorder. The findings have been published in the Journal of Autism and Developmental Disorders as a result of these findings.
The Hidden Benefits Of Martial Arts For Kids With Adhd
Discipline, self-defense, and strength have all been mentioned in martial arts. What if there was scientific evidence that martial arts could help ADHD children? According to the findings of a study published in the journal Neuroscience. It is a common condition that affects children and adults alike who suffer from ADHD. People with this disorder pay attention, act, and interact with others in ways that they normally wouldnt. It has been proven that physical activity can help people with ADHD control their impulses. It is a physically demanding activity in which coordination and strength are required. As a result, it can be used to foster self-confidence. If your child is on the spectrum and would like to learn martial arts, there are many instructors who have specialized training in working with them. Some studios have even made it possible for ADHD students to participate.

What Art Therapists Do For People With Autism
The research is somewhat sketchy regarding the impact of art therapy on people with autism. The literature consists mainly of case studies and papers describing the observed impact of art therapy programs. Some of the papers written and presented on the subject, however, suggest that art therapy can do a great deal. In some cases, it has opened up a whole world of opportunity to an individual with autism who has significant artistic talent. In other cases, it has created a unique opportunity for personal bonding. Other possible outcomes include:
- improved ability to imagine and think symbolically
- improved ability to recognize and respond to facial expressions
- improved ability to manage sensory issues
- improved fine motor skills

How Art Therapy Is Different From Art Classes
Art therapy is a tool for helping clients to access their emotions. By contrast, art classes are intended to provide students with instruction on how to achieve specific artistic effects or goals. While art classes may be appropriate for individuals with autism, they are not a substitute for art therapy.
