Use Your Hand As A Tool
Babies learn to use a variety of gestures from 9-16 months, like giving, reaching, raising arms, showing, waving, and pointing.
Because children with autism may have limited use of these early gestures, they may develop unusual ways to communicate, like using your hand as a tool.

Ask about SSRIs. Women who are taking an SSRI should talk with a clinician about all the risks and benefits of these drugs. Untreated depression in a mother can also affect her childs well-being later on, so this is not a simple decision to make.
Practice prenatal care. Eating nutritious food, trying to avoid infections, and seeing a clinician for regular check-ups can increase the chances of giving birth to a healthy child.

A few people have mentioned to me about my baby being on the spectrum. theyve mentioned a few characteristics that apparently show shes on the spectrum. She rocks back and fourth all the time, bangs her head a lot when in a high chair even after it hurts her, scratches herself, she does sometimes smile but you have to really really work for it, doesnt always emotionally respond ie singing songs or showing her bright musical toys she doesnt always smile she just looks blankly ahead sometimes doesnt even make eye contact. I never really thought much of it, put it down to normal baby behaviour but now 3 different people have mentioned it, its starting to concern me abit. Is it too early to show signs?

Its never too early to raise such queries with health visitor and/ or GP. Think DS was first sent to SALT at 2, but was then referred immediately to paed. Didnt get a diagnosis of ASD until 5 but it was good to know we were in the system and being kept a regular eye on. I would book appointments with both HV and GP, take along a written list of concerns and ask to be referred to a paediatrician. Weve had lots of NHS support since being in the system, so there is everything to be gained and nothing lost.
