Greta Thunberg Has Cared About Climate Change Since Age 8

How Greta Thunberg’s Aspergers diagnosis empowered her to become an activist | 60 Minutes Australia

Anyone who’s listened to Greta Thunberg probably knows that she’ll tell you, “I don’t want you to listen to me, I want you to listen to the scientists.” Thunberg has been listening to climate scientists since age 8, according to the Guardian. Stunned by the apparent indifference of adults and consumed by concerns about the future, she later fell into a deep depression.

It’s important to note that Thunberg has Asperger’s syndrome, an autism spectrum disorder often characterized by social awkwardness, difficulty interpreting social cues, and an obsessive preoccupation with a particular interest. As Thunberg put it, “I overthink. Some people can just let things go, but I can’t.” In school, videos of starving polar bears and pollution reduced her to tears. Devastated by the world‘s disastrous trajectory, she stopped going to school and even stopped eating. She recalled in an interview, “I almost starved to death.”

Eventually, Thunberg concluded that “the best medicine against that concern and sadness is to do something about it, to try to make a change.” She started by convincing her parents to become more climate-conscious. She bombarded them with graphs, got them to watch documentaries, and read books. “I made them feel so guilty,” she said. And little by little, it worked. Thunberg’s mother, a popular opera singer, ultimately quit traveling by plane and her father became a vegetarian.

Thunbergs Father Svante Thunberg Is An Author Producer & Actor

Svante Thunberg is an author, actor, and producer. Hes also created works with his spouse, Malena, as an artist pair. In fact, he manages Malenas career he also co-wrote Scenes From the Heart with his wife.

For his own acting career, Svante is most known for his role in a Swedish television drama series called Skärgårdsdoktorn, which loosely translates to The Archipelago Doctor in English. The show ran from 1997-2000, per IMDB.

Svante has an active and often posts photos of Greta, as well as other climate-related content. He also has moments indicative of being a typical proud parent: he recently retweeted an article that fact-checked the accuracy of Thunbergs various climate change claims and found them all to be true.

Greta Thunbergs Happy Crusade

Greta Thunberg, the eighteen-year-old Swedish climate activist, hasnt decided exactly what shell be doing on Earth Day this year. But shes sure she will have some critical things to say about the virtual climate summit that begins that day, to which President Biden has invited forty world leaders. Even though Biden has reversed the course set by his predecessor, who liked to call climate change a very expensive hoax, Thunberg knows she will be disappointed. The things that they are going to present will not be nearly enough for what science is saying will be in line with the Paris Agreement, she said. So Ill just be calling that out, I guess.

It was a Saturday, and Thunberg was on Zoom. She was dressed like a homebound teen-ager: baggy gray sweatshirt, hair in a loose braid. She was in a borrowed apartment in Stockholm, where, for more than a year, shes lived with her father and her two dogs. Her mother and sister live in the familys apartment, and everyone shuttles back and forth, in a kind of witness-protection program to avoid run-ins with Thunbergs critics. Otherwise, she said, they figure out where I live, and thats not very pleasant.

Her uncompromising words can give the wrong impression. People seem to think that I am depressed, or angry, or worried, but thats not true, she said. Having a cause makes her happy. It was like I got meaning in my life.

Greta Thunberg Responds To Asperger’s Critics: ‘it’s A Superpower’

Teenage climate activist responds to criticism, saying when haters go after your looks and differences … you know youre winning

Greta Thunberg has spoken about her Aspergers syndrome diagnosis after she was criticised over the condition, saying it makes her a different, but that she considers it a superpower.

Thunberg, the public face of the school climate strike movement said on Twitter that before she started her climate action campaign she had no energy, no friends and I didnt speak to anyone. I just sat alone at home, with an eating disorder.

She said she had not been open about her diagnosis of being on the autism spectrum in order to hide behind it, but because she knew many ignorant people still see it as an illness, or something negative.

When haters go after your looks and differences, it means they have nowhere left to go. And then you know youre winning! she wrote, using the hashtag #aspiepower.

While acknowledging that her diagnosis has limited her before, she said it sometimes makes me a bit different from the norm and she sees being different as a superpower.

I’m not public about my diagnosis to “hide” behind it, but because I know many ignorant people still see it as an “illness”, or something negative. And believe me, my diagnosis has limited me before. >

How Would You Feel If This Person Supported An Entirely Different Cause

Greta Thunberg says that Asperger syndrome is her ...

The Greta worshipers and the Greta haters should all do a little mental exercise:How would they feel if she was crusading against, say, abortion or “mass migration” from less developed countries, and rousing passions in large audiences?

Consider for a moment that you enjoy eating potato tacos. Would you like them if they were filled with dog shit? I doubt not, so I have no idea why a bizarre hypothetical scenario that asks me if Id like someone doing something I regard as evil as much as someone doing something I regard as good applies here. It is entirely nonsensical unless you believe there is absolutely no difference between good and bad intentions, and everything is performative, which is a position dumb people think is smart.

As An Autistic Femme I Love Greta Thunbergs Resting Autism Face

I am part of Autistic Women and Nonbinary People With Weird Facial Expressions in Solidarity With Greta. This is not an official group I just made it up, but god knows our numbers are legion.

I am in a suburban Toledo, Ohio, coffee shop sipping my first espresso of the day when I see the news about Greta Thunberg. I kind of stand out in this aggressively perky coffeeshop . I am a racially ambiguous, light-brown-skinned middle-aged femme with greying dark brown and lavender curly hair on one side of my head , holding a cane and wearing a tube top, a gold sequined skirt and the pair of leopard print and neon high tops that Ive been wearing almost every day during my last three months of brand new Screaming-Jesus-This-Sucks levels of chronic pain. But most of all, I am not smiling, although I am lightly masking because Im surrounded by very normal-looking white people, and I have a lifetime of practice toning down how weird I am in public in order to be safe. But, as years of me looking weird and being unable to smile on command will attest, I still have Resting Autism Face. And according to the news, so does Greta Thunberg.

I propose an alliance of Resting Bitch Face and Resting Autistic Face people We have the world to win.

We Need People Who Think Outside The Box And Who Arent Like Everyone Else The 16

Greta Thunberg has called her Asperger syndrome a ‘superpower.’

Greta Thunberg is facing attacks over her Aspergers, but companies are keen to hire people on the autism spectrum.

Thunberg, 16, delivered a withering speech on climate change before the United Nations General Assembly last week, shaming world leaders for failing to take action. How dare you, she said. You have stolen my dreams and my childhood with your empty words.

The teen, who has spoken openly about her Aspergers diagnosis, faced some mockery and personal attacks in response to her speech. One Fox News guest called her a mentally ill Swedish child, prompting the network to apologize to Thunberg and denounce the remark as disgraceful.

Fox News host Laura Ingraham later likened her to the children from the film adaptation of Stephen Kings Children of the Corn.

President Trump, for his part, tweeted sarcastic commentary alongside a video clip of Thunbergs dire warnings: She seems like a very happy young girl looking forward to a bright and wonderful future. So nice to see! Thunberg later co-opted the description for her bio on Twitter TWTR, -0.67% .

How Greta Thunberg’s Autism Helped Make Her The World’s Most Important Person For 2020

The Swedish teenager became the face of the global movement on climate change–and her autism played a fascinating role.

Greta Thunberg named person of the year by Time magazine has shown the world that nothing can interfere with the fulfillment of her mission of climate activism. Not cyberbullying. Not expressions of opposition, some from prominent power players. And perhaps most remarkably, not an autism spectrum diagnosis. In fact, her autism profile is arguably an asset as she sets forth in winning over hearts and minds across the globe.

Aspergers syndrome, which is Gretas autism spectrum diagnosis, is frequently accompanied by other disorders. In her case, obsessive-compulsive disorder is relevant, which likely contributes to her intense and unrelenting focus on speaking truth to power in urging action on climate change. Inspiring what has become a worldwide movement no doubt requires a degree of thinking outside the box, a common attribute among folks with Aspie profiles. The decision to cross the Atlantic Ocean in a solar-powered yacht on her way to the United Nations Climate Action Summit is but one example of such thinking.

What a beautiful and special young woman Greta is. She is arguably a force of nature. Perhaps you can agree, even if you dont agree with her platform? Either way, take a stand for what youbelieve in, no matter what may stand in your way.

This Is Child Abuse Greta Thunberg Is Being Cruelly Manipulated By Her Parents

Climate activist Greta Thunberg on the power of a movement

Ah, yes, teenagers, a group of people notoriously open to being told what to do by their parents. Given that young people have been protesting since, well, forever, Im not sure why anyone is surprised that another one is doing so now. The anti-Nazi activist Sophie Scholl is one obvious example, as is every single teen who protested Vietnam . Perhaps we should look back to the suffragettes, one of whose mottos was “the young are at the gates.” In 1907, the face of the Suffragette cause was a 16-year-old named Dora Thewlis who tried to storm the house of Parliament. When she was arrested, the judge declared that she a) had terrible parents and b) that she was probably only doing this for male attention. Her parents responded that their daughter felt passionately about having voting rights, that she chose to protest on her own, and that they supported her stance entirely. Today, we understand this as being a rational position for a young woman to have, just as the people of tomorrow will feel about Thunbergs.

When haters mention Thunberg’s diagnosis they are saying that this somehow makes her opinions less valuable and that she isnt to be taken seriously. Lets be clear here, people with ASD are people with thoughts and opinions that matter and more importantly, people that have to share this one world that we get with the rest of us.

They have as much of a say in how we preserve the future of this planet as the rest of us.

Opinion: Greta Thunbergs Autism Is Not An Issue Climate Change Is

Regarding the Dec. 13 front-page article A day after Time honors her, president mocks activist:

President Trump tweeting that a 16-year-old should manage her anger is like the Red and White queens of Alice in Wonderland telling Alice to act with greater civility and less tyranny. The White House was quite moralistic about the recent brief mention of the name of the presidents teenage son in the media. The point was emphasized that the children of presidents are off-limits for the media. Are all other children permissible targets?

In the Be Best program promoted across the country by the first lady, would this tweet be a case study of a positive approach? Most school settings would view this as cyberbullying, especially as autism is a protected disability. Greta Thunberg speaks of her autism as a superpower that helps in pursuing her goals. She manages her anger quite well, using that anger to accomplish climate change solutions.

As a retired school counselor from an inner-city school district, I see an easy solution: Mr. Trump can sign up for a Be Best program at a District school. Then his more than 60 million Twitter followers might see kinder words to children.

Greta Thunberg Effect Belies Challenges For Autistic Community In Going Green

A new psychology study from researchers at the University of Bath focuses on the relationship between autism and green behaviours.

Autistic people need extra help in going green say researchers behind a new study which argues for a more inclusive environmental agenda.

Climate action movements are gathering extraordinary pace due to international campaigners like Greta Thunberg, whose autism has been well documented. Being autistic has been used to explain and celebrate, but also diminish and denigrate, her activism.

Thunberg, for example, reports that being autistic is a psychological âgiftâ and âsuperpowerâ that underpins her environmental attitudes and behaviours. This has fuelled speculation â in the media and the general public â that autistic personality traits are intrinsically linked to environmentalism. But, until now, there was no investigation to test the autistic aspect of the so-called âGreta Thunberg Effectâ.

Now a new study from the universities of Bath, Cardiff, Essex, and Kingâs College London, in the Journal of Environmental Psychology, suggests that autistic personality traits are unrelated to environmental attitudes. In contrast they can be linked to lower engagement in pro-environmental green behaviours.

The Untold Truth Of Greta Thunberg

Greta Thunberg shows us that Autism Awareness is Dead ...

Earth’s average temperature has risen and fallen naturally over many millennia, but according to NASA, “The current warming trend is of particular significance because most of it is extremely likely to be the result of human activity since the mid-20th century.” As of this writing, 18 of the last 19 years since 2001 have been the warmest years ever recorded. Per CBS, a 2019 report by more than 450 researchers who relied on 15,000 scientific and governmental sources warned that 1 million plant and animal species face extinction due to climate change. Even the U.S. Department of Defense has weighed in, calling climate change a serious threat to national security.

In the face of such daunting prospects, Swedish activist Greta Thunberg has made it her mission to lower greenhouse gas emissions and make the world a greener, more sustainable place. In 2018, a 15-year-old Thunberg began galvanizing youth all over the globe and taking world leaders to task for failing to take climate change seriously. In 2019, an estimated 1.6 million people participated in a climate strike she directly inspired. Here’s the story of how Greta Thunberg became the face of the climate youth movement and the obstacles she has faced on her journey.

Malena was convinced by her environmentally focused daughter to give up her professional career in international opera, according to The Guardian. This is because of the environmental effects of aviation, the publication reports.

In addition to her opera career, Malena wrote a book about her family, which in English translates to Scenes From the Heart. In the book Malena notes her daughters upbringing as well as their struggles. Additionally, per DW, Malena reveals that Greta has Aspergers syndrome , and Beata has ADHD.
