About Autism Alliance Of Michigan
10 years ago, Michigan was ranked one of the worst states to live for a an individual on the autism spectrum. As a result, the Autism Alliance of Michigan was founded to provide help, hope and answers for families facing never-ending challenges and having difficulty finding accurate, useful information.
We have spent 10 years advocating for critical legislation, creating an inclusive and safe environment for our vulnerable population, and navigating families to the vital services they require. We are proud that Michigan is on its way to improving the quality of life for individuals affected by autism.
10 years later, while much has been accomplished, there is still much to do. With the continued support of the Catalyst Club, we are confident that we can continue to have an impact for the next 10 years.
Built For Maximum Reach
The new system runs on a custom Java application and SQL database hosted on AWS. Slalom used the cloud platform to get AAoM started on AWS quickly and cost-effectively. Its not complex, its not overly expensive, and it fit really well with the way in which AAoM would like to purchase services, Slalom Solution Owner Dave Zabihaylo says of Lightsail.
From a security standpoint, AWS has also given AAoM more confidence about managing the sensitive data it needs to collect for reporting purposes. This includes information about the number of families served and the nature of the cases that Navigators handleinformation that AAoM reports to the State of Michigan, which funds a significant portion of the Navigator program.
Families can access the directory through a responsive website that has the familiar look and feel of the original WordPress site. Specific services are easier to find, with multiple search, sort, and filter options that enable families and Navigators alike to find and save what they need. Navigators no longer have to copy and paste search results into emails to families they can simply download a report and send it over. To ensure a positive service experience, Navigators can also securely save feedback from families about their experiences with providers for future reference.

Contact your local Community Mental Health to access Applied Behavior Analysis, speech therapy, psychological, or other services.
Ask anyone who is working with your child how you can teach and support your child at home. Use goals and strategies taught at school and in therapy during your daily routines.
Connect with your local autism support group. Also be sure to take care of yourself and your family. This might include seeking parent training or sibling support groups.

The Michigan Department of Health and Human Services expanded the Medicaid Autism services and supports in 2013 to support the:
- Medicaid coverage of Behavioral Health Treatment, including Applied Behavior Analysis, services to individuals with Autism Spectrum Disorder
- Michigan Autism Spectrum Disorders State Plan
- Autism services provided throughout Michigan

What Do I Need To Think About For My Childs Iep
Students with Autism often are eligible for services under the category of Autism Spectrum Disorder. The IEP is a process that results in a document, the IEP, which guides the students education. This means parents and educators work together to make an educational plan that provides supports, services, accommodations and modifications that fit the individual student with an autism spectrum disorder. These supports and services are designed to help the student learn within the general educational curriculum along with other students. Visit our website for more information on the IEP process.
The educational plan for each student should be individualized and address the students needs in all areas: academic, social and adaptive, communication, as well as gross and fine motor development.
All students have strengths and these should be built upon as well. Making sure these strengths are considered is just one important contribution parents make to the educational planning team.
Within the overall context of individualization, and recognizing the uniqueness of each student, there are some programming suggestions that can serve as a guide to making the learning environment best for the student with an autism spectrum disorder.

Riley Family Gps Story
One Sunday while at church I noticed that Otis was not in the Chapel. At first I panicked, then I realized all I had to do was check my phone. I saw that Otis was not in our church or on the grounds he had wandered 2-3 miles away but I could tell that he was walking based on his pace, and then the pace picked up to 20 miles per hour. His father was also able to monitor him and follow him, however not see him. He noticed a bus had stopped and Otis had gotten off the bus. If it had not been for AngelSense we would have had no idea on what direction to have even looked for him. Later we found out that Otis only got off the bus because someone brought a baby on the us and he didnt like the sound of babies crying. It is truly a blessing to have AAoM and AngelSense.
