Boyle’s first album, I Dreamed a Dream, was released on 23 November 2009. The album includes covers of “Wild Horses” and “You’ll See” as well as “I Dreamed a Dream”, and “Cry Me a River”. In Britain, Boyle’s debut album was recognised as the fastest selling UK debut album of all time selling 411,820 copies, beating the previous fastest selling debut of all time, Spirit by Leona Lewis.I Dreamed a Dream also outsold the rest of the top 5 albums combined in its first week.
In the US, the album sold 701,000 copies in its first week, the best opening week for a debut artist in over a decade. It topped the Billboard chart for six straight weeks and although it narrowly failed to become the best-selling album of 2009, with sales of 3,104,000 compared to 3,217,000 for Taylor Swift‘s Fearless, it was one of only two albums to sell over 3 million copies in the US, and was also the top selling “physical” album of 2009, with only 86,000 of its sales coming from . This has in turn garnered more media attention, as mentioned by People magazine.
In Italy, it was the first album of the month in the Italian No. 1 Account by a non-Italian artist ever. In only a week, it sold more than 2 million copies worldwide, becoming the fastest selling global female debut album.
Return To Music And A Wonderful World
Following the release of previous album, Hope in 2014, Boyle took a break during 2015 to “take a little me time and spend time at home with family and friends”, and thus the recording of her seventh studio album was postponed to 2016. In October 2016, Boyle announced the release of A Wonderful World.

When Susan Boyle first took to the stage on Britains Got Talent, I realized she was on the autism spectrum. Her quirky ways had everyone laughing at her until the jaw-dropping moment she began singing I Dreamed a Dream. She stunned the world with her spectacular voice. Suddenly everyone forgot her little wiggle and cheeky comments to Simon Cowell. Susan became an instant sensation. But there was one thing about herself that she didnt officially even yet know the very thing that would help explain her entire life right up to that very moment when she stepped into the spotlight and her life turned magical.
Aside from her incredible voice, I became fascinated with her because I recognized she was autistic. I wondered if she had been diagnosed. Weeks later after she won second place, her autobiography came out The Woman I Was Born To Be My Story. As I read her life story, I came to feel like she was the sister I never had but always wished I had. I can recall feeling her pain when reading about getting bullied, as I have walked in her shoes. We were alike in so many ways, as two females, the same age, experiencing life with Aspergers.
Modern society is too quick to judge people on their appearances, she said. There is not much you can do about it it is the way they think it is the way they are. But maybe this could teach them a lesson, or set an example.

Boyle released her fourth album Standing Ovation: The Greatest Songs from the Stage in November 2012. She reportedly took piano lessons as she planned on playing it for the album. A reporter told The Sun “Susan loves the piano and always dreamed of being able to reach a standard which would allow her to play on stage and on her albums.” In October 2012 renowned opera star Placido Domingo released his album Songs which included a duet with Boyle of Shania Twain‘s “From This Moment On“.
Susan Boyle Was Misdiagnosed As A Kid And Often Bullied
For her entire life, Susan Boyle was told she had brain damage due to complications at birth. However, with more than five decades under her belt, Boyle decided to seek medical advice, as she believed her problem was more severe. “I went to seek a diagnosis from a Scottish specialist,” the singer told The Observer in 2013. “Nobody told me to. I thought I had a more serious illness and couldn’t function properly.”
Nicknamed “Susie Simple” by hometown kids, Boyle was bullied for being “different.” But thanks to that specialist, Boyle learned she wasn’t damaged she simply has Asperger’s syndrome, a high-functioning form of autism that affects a person’s social interaction and communication skills. It’s also often linked to mental health conditions, like depression, anxiety, and more, per Autism Speaks.
“It was the wrong diagnosis when I was a kid,” Boyle explained. “I was told I had brain damage. I always knew it was an unfair label. Now I have a clearer understanding of what’s wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself.”
And she has no plans to let this diagnosis define her professional identity. Boyle added, “It’s a condition that I have to live with and work through… People will have a greater understanding of who I am and why I do the things I do.” We are so glad she found the peace of mind she needed to reclaim her quiet confidence.

Disability doesnt mean Inability
Somehow our culture has arrived at a very skewed understanding of persons with autism. Unfortunately, when discussing disabilities, an over-emphasis is often on what these individuals cant do. In the minds of some, disability equals inability.
However, this couldnt be further from the truth. The reality is, there are countless examples of persons with disabilities making significant accomplishments. And not only this, the variety of fields where they are making an impact is nothing short of amazing! Some of these I included in a previous post found here.
Some of these include persons such as Susan Boyle, Dan Akroyd, and Noah Britton. These individuals have all had made significant social contributions, yet in their own unique way. This demonstrates that individuals with disabilities are more than capable!
So one of the more helpful ways to grasp the meaning of a disability is to understand it as a differing ability. In other words, its not that these individuals are incapable. Its more so that they have a different way of accomplishing the task at hand. So disability does NOT equal inability.

LONDON Singer Susan Boyle says she has been diagnosed with Asperger’s syndrome, a form of autism and feels relief at finally having the right label for her condition.
Boyle told the Observer newspaper that she saw a specialist a year ago, who told her she had Asperger’s and an above-average IQ.
Boyle, 52, had learning difficulties as a child, which she was told were the result of brain damage from oxygen deprivation at birth. She struggled in school and was bullied by other children.
“I have always known that I have had an unfair label put upon me,” Boyle said in the interview, published Sunday.
“Now I have a clearer understanding of what’s wrong and I feel relieved and a bit more relaxed about myself.”
The church volunteer from a small Scottish town became a global sensation when she sang the Les Miserables number I Dreamed a Dream on TV contest Britain’s Got Talent in 2009.
The contrast between her shy manner and soaring voice won Boyle legions of fans. She has sold more than 14 million records around the world and recently released her fourth album, Home for Christmas. She makes her big-screen debut in holiday movie The Christmas Candle.

Early Musical Training And Career
Boyle took singing lessons from vocal coach Fred O’Neil. She attended Edinburgh Acting School and took part in the Edinburgh Fringe. She also long participated in her parish church’s pilgrimages to the Knock Shrine, County Mayo, Ireland, and sang there at the Marian basilica.
In 1995, she auditioned for Michael Barrymore‘s My Kind of People.
In 1998, Boyle recorded three tracks”Cry Me a River“, “Killing Me Softly”, and “Don’t Cry for Me Argentina“at Heartbeat Studio, Midlothian. She used all her savings to pay for a professionally cut demo, copies of which she later sent to record companies, radio talent competitions, local and national TV. The demo consisted of her versions of “Cry Me a River” and “Killing Me Softly with His Song” the songs were uploaded to the Internet after her BGT audition.
In 1999, Boyle submitted a track for a charity CD to commemorate the Millennium produced at a West Lothian school. Only 1,000 copies of the CD, Music for a Millennium Celebration, Sounds of West Lothian, were pressed. An early review by Amber McNaught in the West Lothian Herald & Post said Boyle’s rendition of “Cry Me a River” was “heartbreaking” and “had been on repeat in my CD player ever since I got this CD…” The recording found its way onto the internet following her first televised appearance and the New York Post said it showed that Boyle was “not a one-trick pony.”Hello! said the recording “cement her status” as a singing star.

Scottish singer Susan Boyle has been diagnosed with Asperger Syndrome, a form of autism. She is one of thousands of people who have the condition but were not diagnosed earlier in life.
The National Autistic Society Scotland recently warned that there is an “invisible generation” of older people with autism.
The charity said there was still a tendency to associate the condition with children but it estimated that one in five people with autism were over 60.
Until a generation ago, the condition was often misunderstood and misdiagnosed.
Susan Boyle, who is 52, is typical of many, having spent years believing she suffered slight brain damage at birth.
Robert MacBean, from the National Autistic Society Scotland, said a “good diagnosis experience” was very important, regardless of a person’s age.
He said: “A good experience leaves you understanding yourself, understanding what has been happening to you and also allows you to develop your own coping strategies.
“Unfortunately not everyone gets that experience. Some people, if they manage to get a diagnosis, it is after years of waiting and quite often they are left at the end with a leaflet and as they leave they are told ‘don’t worry about having a label’. That’s all the support they get.”

Susan lost weight because she wanted to be healthy, period.
Her doctor told her she needed to lose weight too.
Even in her childhood, she had always struggled with her health and weight.
Back in 2014, her doctors gave her a diagnosis which meant she actually had to concentrate on becoming slimmer.
The diagnosis was type 2 diabetes.
She needed to get serious about being well and healthy with that diagnosis.
